Historical Background
A marvel in engineering skill and Gothic architectural structure, it was originally constructed by the Jesuit missionary order in 1595, but was reconstructed and enlarged during the stint of Fr. Valero de San Pascual (1839-1855). Added to the main edifice was a convent of stone, wood, bamboo plastered with lime which Fr. Lucas Corominas built in 1872. Twelve years later, Fr. Jose Sancho undertook the task of building the stone bell-tower which was completed in 1888. In 1894, Fr. Escolastico Enciso gave its interior the regal touch.
 
In 1901, under Republic Act No. 82, the Cabesa de barangay who became known as Barrio Lieutenant headed the unit appointed by an elected Municipal Councilor. In 1931, the Barrio Council was created through the enactment of Republic Act no. 3861. Thiswas composed of four rural councilors appointed in each barrio by municipal councilors headed by the Barrio Lieutenant.
 
The first elected Barrio Lieutenant was the late Hon. Pedro K. Mondilla and the first Barrio Captain was Hon. Rosario Karaan. In 1972 Hon. Roberto Villanueva was elected Barrio Captain and did not finish his term for his family migrated to the U.S. Councilor Rogelio Calimbayan assumed as the Barrio Captain until 1987. Hon. Antonio F. Beldia IV was appointed OIC Barangay Captain until 1989 succeeded him. From then he served as the designated chairperson of the barangay council being the Kagawad who got the highest number of votes in the election. This was from 1980-1994. Later, the name Barangay Captain was change to Punong Barangay undr the local code of 1991. The first elected Punong Barangay was Hon. Rogelio P. Calimbayan.
